Private tutor in Englewood, NJ
Education
Vassar College - BA, Sociology , Columbia University - MA, Teaching of English
Experience
I attended Vassar for my undergraduate degree, and I received my master's from Columbia University's Teachers College. I've been an English Language and Literature teacher in public schools in New York City, and at a private school in New Jersey. I've tutored grades 9-12 in mathematics and reading, in both NJ and the Bronx. My teaching experience and expertise is really quite extensive. I'm skilled at teaching Reading, Writing, and Literature (Shakespeare, American, British, etc.). I've helped students with literary analysis, essay-and-persuasive writing, public speaking, and critical reading. I've worked with students of many education levels to prepare for a large number of tests, including the SAT (as well as subject tests), ACT, ACCUPLACER, DAT, ASPIRE, CAHSEE, GMAT, and GRE, to name a few. Though both my parents have backgrounds in English and Lit, I wasn't initially drawn to those fields. Reading Kurt Vonnegut during undergrad inspired me to pursue literature in a more invested way. Since then, I've tried to move students to love reading and taking in all that books have to offer, which is endlessly rewarding. As I've mentioned, I love to read and write, but I also enjoy biking and playing/listening to the drums.
